Call for Nominations: OLF Trust Director

Nominations close October 20, 2026, at 5:00pm

The Our Land for the Future (OLF) Trust invites nominations for a Director appointed by its Indigenous Partners for a four-year term. The successful candidate will serve on both the Trust’s Governance Committee and Financial Committee. Their responsibilities include acting independently and in good faith in the best interests of the OLF Trust; exercising appropriate care, diligence and skill; and carrying out the functions assigned to their committees under the OLF Agreement.

Indigenous Partners may nominate a candidate, and interested individuals may put their own names forward through this public call. Candidates do not need to be nominated by an Indigenous Partner to apply.

About the role

OLF Directors provide oversight and direction to the Trust in accordance with the NWT: Our Land for the Future Agreement and the Trust’s governing documents. The Governance Committee oversees the Trust’s operations and allocation decisions. The Financial Committee provides financial and investment oversight.

The role is expected to include a two-hour virtual meeting each month, two in-person committee meetings per year, two in-person Partners Table meetings per year, and preparation time. Remuneration is provided in accordance with the Trust’s bylaws.

Who we are looking for

Candidates must have governance experience as an elected official, board member or senior manager. They should be familiar with accounting and investment issues relevant to the Trust, be able to read and understand financial statements or be willing to develop that ability, and demonstrate—or be willing to develop—cultural competency and knowledge of the rights, histories and contemporary perspectives of Indigenous peoples in the NWT.

The Indigenous Partners will also consider experience in areas such as Indigenous land use and knowledge, land and resource management, conservation, financial oversight, fundraising and law. Leadership, collaboration and consensus-building experience will be valuable.

  • Demonstrate, or be willing to acquire, cultural competency and knowledge of the rights, histories and contemporary perspectives of Indigenous peoples in the Northwest Territories, including consensus-building.

Desired background and experience:

A nominee should have experience in one or more of these areas:

  • Fundraising in the public or private sector.

  • Indigenous land use, Indigenous science, knowledge and culture.
